Dana Stein
Last Friday, Nov 14, Dana finished the Standard of Care, which is 6 weeks of daily oral chemo and targeted radiation (30 treatments). Throughout the 6 weeks, she faced every day with courage and strength, supported in so many ways: daily cards, drivers, meals, donations, emotional support. Ringing the gong on Friday was a milestone she pushed towards!
What she didn't expect (though, kind of did, ha) was that ringing the gong meant bringing on the side effects. She's been struggling a bit with nausea - something that the team mentioned could happen. However, it's a blessing that she's gotten this far without them, and is taking the time to let her body process all of this and is slowing down, but only temporarily! She's been doing the things she loves and it's keeping her happy and forward focused.
On Dec 1, she'll have her next MRI, then flies out to Duke that Thursday (12/4) for a follow-up appointment on Friday, 12/5. There, they'll learn next course of action.
A couple of other things:
1. DANA'S ARMY tees are in. We'll get them sorted and ready for pickup/shipping. Thanks for your patience on this!
2. I've stopped the meal train for now at Dana's request. She'd like to focus on paying it forward, so I've partnered with Fitness Underground to do a food drive from now until Dec 5. If you're local to Erie, you can drop food off at the gym (149 S Briggs St) during one of their classes. If you're not local, feel free to make a donation to the Erie Community Food Bank directly in her honor.
