For the last six weeks...
We've been living in a space between hope and fear.
Waiting.
Praying.
Wondering.
Trying to smile when our hearts were breaking under the weight of uncertainty.
Today's appointment at Duke wasn't just another follow-up. It was the day we had been anxiously counting down to because today's MRI would answer the one question we desperately didn't want to ask...
Was the change on Dana's last MRI simply inflammation from her treatment...or was Grade 4 Glioblastoma beginning to progress again?
There was no way to know until today.
Dana began Avastin infusions after her last scan in hopes that if the change was inflammation, it would settle down and reveal the truth. But until today's MRI, we had no answers.
Only questions.
I can honestly say these last six weeks have been the most emotionally exhausting season of our entire cancer journey. Every ring of the phone. Every passing day. Every quiet moment seemed to remind us that today's answer could change everything.
During these weeks, something else happened inside me.
I found myself seeking God in a way I never have before.
I prayed...constantly.
Morning. Noon. Night.
When I couldn't sleep, I prayed.
When fear crept into my heart, I prayed.
I opened my Bible and began reading God's Word more intentionally than ever before. I wasn't just looking for comfort - I was looking for Him. I wanted to know Him more intimately and trust His plan, whatever it might be. I prayed that our story, regardless of the outcome, would become a testimony that points people toward His goodness and His faithfulness.
Even our son, Evan, was carrying this burden.
He shared dreams and visions that made him fear today's appointment would bring heartbreaking news.
As a father, hearing those fears from your child is something you never forget.
But I held onto the peace God had been placing on my heart.
I told Evan, "I've been praying. I've been talking with God, and I truly believe everything is going to be okay."
Not because I had any guarantee...
But because I chose to trust the One who already knew today's outcome.
This morning, we walked into Duke carrying six weeks of fear, hope, tears, prayers, and countless people lifting Dana up before God.
Then came the moment.
The doctor walked in.
She reviewed the scans.
And then she smiled.
The inflammation...
...is completely gone.
There is...
NO. TUMOR. PROGRESSION.
DANA'S SCANS ARE CLEAR!!
In that instant, it felt as though six weeks of anxiety came crashing off our shoulders.
The tears came.
The smiles returned.
We could breathe again.
Then her doctor said words we'll never forget:
"She's knocking it out of the park."
What an incredible gift.
What an incredible moment.
What an incredible God.
Today is another reminder that while medicine, science, brilliant doctors, and treatments are all incredible blessings, we believe the Great Physician has been walking beside us every step of this journey.
We know there are still battles ahead. Glioblastoma is a relentless disease, and we never take victories like this for granted.
But today...
Today is not about fear.
Today is not about uncertainty.
Today is about gratitude.
Today is about hope.
Today is about celebrating another victory that only six weeks ago felt so uncertain.
To every single person who has prayed for Dana, sent messages, called, checked in, cried with us, encouraged us, and faithfully stood beside our family—you have no idea how much your love has meant. We believe your prayers have carried us more than you'll ever know.
And above all else...
To God be ALL the glory.
He has been faithful through every storm.
He has never left our side.
And today, once again, He has given us another reason to praise His holy name.
Today we celebrate.
Today we rejoice.
Today, the weight has been lifted.
Dana's scans are CLEAR.
Praise God. ❤️🙏
