Another infusion day. Another step forward. ❤️
Every three weeks, this has become part of our routine.
We drive an hour south to Dana’s infusion center, where we’re greeted by the same wonderful nurses who now know us by name. It’s a strange feeling when a cancer treatment center starts to feel familiar, but we’re so grateful for the kindness and compassion they show us every visit.
First things first, Dana makes her usual dash to the bathroom (making sure to bring her urine sample cup with her! 😂). Then come the labs, the preparation of her medication, and the IV placement - which, unfortunately, almost always takes a few tries.
And finally, infusion time. 35 minutes.
We sit together, play cards, laugh, talk about life, and try to make an otherwise difficult experience feel as normal as possible. (shoutout to Nanny & Pops for getting our boy when the appointment inevitably runs late).
Then we pack up and make the hour-long drive home.
The biggest side effect is usually fatigue, but Dana continues to show up with such incredible strength, patience, and good spirits. I’m constantly amazed by her resilience.
14 months.
That’s how long we’ve been on this journey. And while life continues moving forward around us, we’re still very much in the thick of it. Still in active treatment. Still navigating uncertainty. Still making these trips every three weeks.
Sometimes I think people naturally assume that as time passes, things must be getting easier or returning to normal. But the reality is that cancer doesn’t simply fade into the background because another month has gone by.
This is still our everyday life.
And we’re sharing this not for sympathy, but because we want people to understand what this journey continues to look like, even on the quieter, more routine days.
So what can you do?
Check in on us. Send a message. Ask Dana how she’s feeling. Keep us in your prayers. ❤️
You don’t need to have the perfect words or know exactly what to say. Sometimes just knowing that people haven’t forgotten what we’re still walking through means more than you could ever imagine.
We continue to hold on to our faith, our hope, and our belief that God is walking alongside us through every step of this journey.
Thank you for continuing to love us, pray for us, and stand beside our family.
14 months in. Still fighting. Still hoping. Still believing. 🙏❤️
