Cru Morrison and Family
Cru’s surgery went well. Dr. Kevin Jones, his lead surgeon, was very pleased with how things went and was able to remove most of rib #7, along with parts of ribs #6 and #8. They were also able to achieve negative margins, which is the best outcome we could have hoped for in surgery. In place of the removed ribs, they placed a Gore-Tex mesh to help protect and support the area moving forward.
The days following surgery were intense. Cru had to manage significant pain with IV medications and a pain pump. He also had two chest tubes in for several days, which were extremely uncomfortable. Getting those removed was a huge relief for him.
Now, he’s home and focused on healing. We’re still waiting on the pathology results to understand the level of tumor cell death and to look at a couple spots doctors wanted to test. Cru had a tremendous response to chemo before surgery, with major tumor shrinkage—so we’re praying that continues to be a good sign.
We’ll head in for his orthopedic follow-up next week, where his team will decide when to resume chemotherapy. They’re hoping to get started again as soon as he’s physically ready.
We can’t thank you enough for the incredible support we’ve received. The messages, gifts, and kindness shown to Cru and our family during this difficult time have meant so much. A special thank you to American Fork Football for the personalized gift—it was so thoughtful and deeply appreciated. Cru has built friendships through 7’s with players from several schools, and it’s been powerful to see that community rally around him. We also want to thank Manti Football for showing him love this week.
Thank you also for the written messages delivered to the hospital from teachers, coaches and friends at Skyridge. They brightened our stay. We are so grateful.
