We got an early start this morning! Heading to St. Louis Children's Hospital for Jackson's screening. With this trial they're trying to get his own immune system prepared better for the battle raging inside. Jackson will start by taking Temozolomide; a chemo pill. Then he gets a Tetanus booster; this is to get is immune system amped up. Then he will be getting the trial "vaccine" PEP-CMV. The vaccines purpose is to attack a virus called Cytomegalovirus; CMV. Which they know is present in many HGG, DIPG & Medullablastoma Tumors. The hope with this trial is that by giving the vaccine it will create an immune response against the tumor cells. This will hopeful kill the cells or shrink them. This trial lasts 2 years. There are many side effects possible but they are confident they can all be manager with other medications or steroids.
With the recent diagnosis change we are very lucky to get the opportunity to try this trial, the clock was ticking!
We explained to both kids what this trial is supposed to do and what Jack will have to do during it. And we had to have the hard "you might lose more hair" talk. Which as you can imagine was heartbreaking. But with everything else out of our control, we wanted Jack to know that was a possibility.
Special thanks today to Anna Hall for making sure Krista gets to school today & Mammy and Papa for picking her after school.
Please pray for Tyler, Jack & I while we travel to St.Louis today. For bravery & strength for Jackson as he will be facing a lot of ingections in some not so fun places. And of course for Tyler & I as we continue to watch him have to endure all these things. Pray for Krista to have understanding and strength as well. Please show her extra kindness, she's putting on a brave face.
