Feigning annoyance. The first pic was initially annoyance that transitioned into silly joy which tried to recapture the annoyance of 30 seconds prior. Such a story! You won’t get any of that 30 seconds except for the pictures and this blurb. Enjoy!
Now onto the real update. Why is Christyna like this? Let me spin a tale so yarn-worthy that you may lose your socks from shock. Don’t worry, you’ll have tons of material to make new socks from. I’m spinning that much!
Yesterday was a big day for Christyna! We are in a one-bedroom condo, which isn’t all that big for two full-grown hominids. I’m not sure a zoo would have us in an enclosure this size. It’s easy to get under foot of the other occupant. It’s seemed even smaller since I broke my arm, and had surgery, and Christyna having her diagnosis and treatment a little under 3 weeks ago. We are both recovering and rehabilitating. Christyna requires more stringent care than I did during my recovery.
Almost to a fault, I give Christyna attention before I give myself attention. She has had the more invasive procedure. I wore a sling, she has had drains and gauze and bandages and lanyards and pillows and pill boxes and new clothes and cleaning regimens and chairs and on and on. As I’m sure you already know, Christyna is a project and I am not. (We all know that I’m a project too, but require less “fuss.” My project-ness is “let him entertain himself with some paper and crayons” kinda project. I digress.)
Christyna realized something that was needed was for me to have some alone time at home and her having some nourish time out. Abby stepped up in a big way and got Christyna to the Menil. I packed Christyna’s go bag, kissed her on the cheek, patted her on the tushie, and sent her out into the world! It was glorious! I got a single text while they were out arting life away! Abby took great care of our dear one and deposited Christyna back home a couple hours later. I “danced around the house nekked” the entire time!
Christyna wanted a shower this morning, and I obliged. After the shower, Christyna said, having noticed pains not there prior, “I hope this isn’t a slip back in my healing.” I reminded her that yesterday was big and active and lots of exercise. “But I took lots of breaks and sat frequently!” No doubt, my love, but these pains are from the newness of the body and exercise! We got her into her chair with her feet up PDQ.
Cat couldn’t wait to get into his new and improved lap! We rushed to get Christyna’s legs up, blanket and towel on, and comfortable so cat could get to his job. 3 minutes later, cat was asleep and I noticed how loungy the cat was. I. Zoomed in to snap a picture and got the look. My subject matter changed in an instant. I pulled back the zoom and got the pic I wanted, and pushed the big-red-button that Christyna warned about with the look. I took 7 more pictures and shared the first and last with you all.
Both pictures tell opposing stories.
It was the best of times. It was the worst of times. Indeed!
Probably the other way around, though. Welcome to the monkey house!
Thank you for sharing and expanding joy in the Christyna household. It’s not all roses and balloons. There are tears and snot and frustration and growth. Christyna has grown into being able to go on field trips. Give me enough planning time to get an appropriate go bag ready and you too can be the impetus of a story that exceeds a thousand words… let’s keep the roses and balloons times outnumbering the tears and snot!
I just got a text from her, 3 yards away, saying “I love you. 💞” Then she says, out loud, “When are you going to do the next update?” It’s what I’m literally working on. She wants me to post so she can nap. These may not be roses and balloons, but I’ll take them and relish these times more than any amount of roses and balloons. Hehe! I love this human.
Also, no, we do not require more roses and balloons. It’s a turn of phrase…
I love you, too.
