Coordinate a time with Chelsy via text. There will be a leash by the door. About Gimme on walks: He usually doesn't like leaving Chelsy if she's home, so you might have to pick him up to get him to go with you. Once you're out, he'll be happy. Gimme is really an expert at pooping in places that are out of the way. I will usually just cover his poop with grass or mulch or dirt in this case. Sometimes, he needs to have his poop bagged but this is pretty rare. He's very social and does great on a leash. His main goal during a walk is to sniff and pee on as many things as possible. He loves saying hi to other dogs and will pull you to do it. He's little, so it's manageable. I leash him when I'm in a park or somewhere that there is an enforced leash law or where there might be other dogs who aren't friendly. If you're into off-leash walking, there's some ideas for locations below. You can either walk him somewhere local within walking distance, or you can load him into your car to a remote location. There are both local and remote areas for on-leash walking and off-leash walking. If he is off leash, he won't just run away from you for no reason. If he sees a dog, he will uncontrollably run up to them to say hi. If he's near a busy road and the dog is across the road, he might try to cross the street to get to them. Most of you will want to just walk him on-leash at HJ Carroll Park, which is easily accessible from my house. He can also walk in other locations. If you're interested in spicing it up, you can read below for other location ideas. -------- On-leash, local: HJ Caroll Park is accessible from my neighborhood by hanging right out of my street and entering the park via the park host entrance which is at the end of Fern Way. From there, you can go left or right on wooded trails which lead into the park. On-leash, remote: Anywhere you like, but Old Fort Townsend State Park is about 7 minutes away and has great trails. I usually walk him off leash, myself so that he can roam and sniff and get more steps and joy in. Off-leash, remote: Irondale beach is probably the place to take him to get him the most bang for his buck. It's an off-leash dog beach, so unfriendly dogs are usually not present. Gimme loves going there. Gibbs Lake County Park also has great trails that are usually pretty devoid of people and dogs, so I take him there off leash. Off-leash, local: Usually, I take him to walk in my neighborhood and go down to the grange to make a loop. There's a little foot trail by the grange propane tank that goes into the grange driveway. We'll either go down into the yard and check out the creek, or walk up the driveway and along the edge of the parking lot by the blackberry bushes so he can sniff. Then we make a loop by going to the end of the grass parking lot and say hi to the neighbor dogs through the fence by the crosswalk. Then we circle back to my neighborhood on the sidewalk by the road. Sometimes, we go across the highway to walking destinations. I always use the cross walk when going across the highway so he doesn't get in the habit of crossing the street anywhere by himself. We use the cross walk to go to either the Chimacum School Campus after school hours, or to Chimacum Park. He loves to run off leash on the school grounds. We weave between the buildings to get back to the playground area and eirher walk the perimeter of the school grounds, or circle around the building to the football/baseball fields. We cut back past the tennis courts and get back across the street through the parking lot. Or, you can use the cross walk and then go into the Tri-area Community Center parking lot to access Chimacum Park. Chimacum Park is a hidden gem with lots of winding trails that he loves to sniff on. He does great off leash in the park. On the loop where we walk off leash by the grange, he won't just try to cross the street because I have him trained that we only cross the street at the cross walk. When he's off leash, you can say "stay with me" and he is obedient. Tuesdays and Wednesdays, there is a dog training class at the grange in the afternoon and I try to steer clear of that area on those days/times because there's often dogs in the parking lot and the owners are usually fussy about an off leash dog in their training zone. If you have other ideas for locations, just run it by me and I'm sure it'll work out fine.
