Good morning Friends,
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your generosity in giving in these crazy times we live in. This was the last thing we wanted to do, but in an emergent situation it was the only thing to do. Alysa kept saying, "Mom if a person gave just 5.00, it's 5.00 towards what's needed for Dad and all of our mental health!" The outpouring of Love is unmeasured.
So... I brought my "Boyfriend" home last Thursday from Rehab. I'd hired a retired nurse (although still young & fit) to help with Charles 3 to 6 hours a day... I really didn't know what I'd needed just yet. She was supposed to meet me at our house to help upon arrival. She didn't show up, nor did she call. Alysa came out to help me take him out of the car and into the wheelchair... In that moment I forgot EVERYTHING the Physical Therapist (Mika) taught me. Needless to say, we got him in the wheelchair, but his butt wasn't all the way to the back of the seat in the chair... He slid right out of that chair like he was on a sliding board, but in slow motion. It was about 102 degrees outside. All I could do was cry. Alysa was on the ground with her Dad whispering in his ear that everything was gonna be good, just hold on. I was running to different Neighbor's homes who I knew worked from home. Nobody answered their door! I needed serious muscles, because Charles was dead weight at this point. About 15 minutes passed, and our Neighbor 2 doors down showed up to help! He saw Charles down and went into action! I was nervous, because Brad is tall and lean. HA! Looks are deceiving ya'll! I followed his instructions and we got Charles into the house and in bed. He was a lifesaver that day! Our Neighbor Janelle was at our house when we arrived asking if She could help too. I thought we had it though. Neighbors become real "Family" when times get hard. There's NOTHING like great Neighbors and I must say, wherever we've lived over 33 years of our marriage, I'm STILL connected with my Neighbor's.
So here we are 6 days later, I still have no hired help yet. Alysa & I are holding it down. We do have home health come in, but not more than 30 to 45 minutes 2 times a week. A nurse came in last Friday...She was very helpful, and Physical Therapist April came on Monday.. On Saturday Charles' BFF Brian Richardson flew in with his Wife Denise from the Bay Area because he NEEDED to check on his Friend! He got here and Charles' shoulders relaxed & he had a HUGE smile on his face. I'm so glad they came.
Charles' college Friend called and said that He and His wife are flying in at the end of this month to cook for us.
Another Friend of his from his teenage years called yesterday (He just worked his last day yesterday due to RETIREMENT)! HAPPY RETIREMENT BARRON! He told me he can be here next week to help take care of Charles.
Most touching & surreal was on yesterday my Friend Sylvia who just buried her Beautiful & successful 32 year old daughter last Monday called to check on us. With all She's going through, WE were on her mind... That's LOVE. Thank you all!
If any of you are apprehensive about giving money, I'm accepting adult diapers XL, disposable wipes/washcloths, disposable and washable "chucks!" Just send me a message in messenger if you do not have our phone number.
Keep sharing this link to your Friends and Family! This is just as big as giving!
You all ARE SUPER AMAZING! We appreciate you and we thank God for you!
Blessings,
Lisa, Charles & Alysa
By the way, I'm still interviewing responsible caregivers....
