The first real day of Rehab begins! Mark the respiratory therapist started us off. Not as funny as our favorite Mark, but very helpful and too the point. He started with, “Why are you on oxygen?” We kind of laughed and said shouldn’t you be telling us that.
He removed the oxygen because her levels were good and her lungs need to do the work. Breathing treatments twice a day and check ins as needed.
Tyler, the PT specialist was amazing. You can just tell he knows his job very well and knows people. He got Cathy up and moving a little and gave us a tour of the place. Transition from standing to sitting seems to be the hardest part along with all the limitations of movement in place. BLT, no bending leaning or twisting allowed. Even with those restrictions he seems confident he can make some real progress.
Last Chyna the OT specialist came and started working on plans for after rehab is complete, expectations and beginning putting together their recommendations along with a shower.
Mom taught me how to brush hair without pulling it all out.
She got some rest after the shower which was much needed after her busiest day of activity yet. She was a little upset with the food options from the previous days but we are getting that figured out also, so she got a cheese burger today made fresh and delivered to her room on time.
She’ll have a few more rounds of medicine and tomorrow real therapy will begin. It will likely be a long hard day tomorrow, so if you’re reading this now, send her some encouragement to keep pushing on!
One thing I really liked was Tyler asked her what her goals are with the treatment, so to close out a long day I’ll share those here.
1. Hold her grand babies
2. Work again!
3. Drive
4. Take the dogs for a walk
