Seattle Children's Hospital ED -June 11/12 2024

June 11/12 2024: I have never thrown up so many times from emotional stress, but there is something about multiple days of trying to care for a toddler who is screaming and sobbing and writhing in pain in your arms for hours at a time that completely turns your insides out.

David tried to return to work that morning and I managed Braven at home. However after 4 hours of screaming inconsolably, completely unintelligible and falling flat on his face when I tried to have him walk alone.

His neurologist told us to get him to Seattle Children's Emergency Department as quickly as we could, so David came home and we rushed down two hours to the Children's Hospital keeping an eye that Braven's vitals remained stable and he did not give us the tell tale signs we would need 911 on the drive.

At the ED in Seattle, they knew he was coming and got him in fairly quickly to start another cocktail and get neuro on the floor with him. Their main concerns were ruling out meningitis, etc.

He had a cold, but nothing more that would be life threatening so they went into next steps: trying an abortive that we could take home that would work safely on a Hemiplegic Migraine patient.

They ended up settling on the medications that have worked for myself, and gave him his first dose while there to monitor. After he stayed stable for an hour they determined to release him from Seattle Children's ED.

This did not sit well for David and I, as the pattern of this attack has been several hours of hell and then a reprieve. We told this to the Dr, who said they had nothing more to do for him.

We discussed staying in a hotel in Seattle for the next 24 hours till we knew he had truly broken out of the attack, but all the spots by the hospital were $300+ WITH the hospital discount and Braven WAS resting more peacefully than he had in days. So, with hope of the end of the tunnel, David drove us 2 hours home at 2 in the morning. I helped by continuing to throw up in the back seat.
