In June, I found a lump in my breast and went to my primary care doctor. She didn’t seemed concerned but wanted me to get a mammogram.
I wasn’t able to get in till August 6. Summer is so busy, so July just flew by and I didn’t have much time to think about it.
August 6- I did my first mammogram and breast ultrasound at 35. I was still not worried, till the doctor came in and expressed she was greatly concerned at what she was looking at. They found a 4.1 cm tumor and calcifications on my lymph nodes.
August 11- I did a breast biopsy on the lump and the lymph nodes in my ultrasound. Positive- the lymph nodes were clear! But the lump was confirmed to be cancer.
August 13- I got the official diagnosis of triple negative breast cancer. Triple negative means it doesn’t respond to any hormone receptors, and the only way to stop it from spreading is chemotherapy.
August 18- I met with the surgical oncologist. It is stage 2, grade 3. Just meaning not in my lymph nodes but it’s fast spreading and growing. I will do chemo for 4-6 months. Take a month off to rest, then do a bilateral mastectomy.
Triple negative had a 40% chance of reoccurrence in the first 3-5 years, but if you make it to 5 years- 2/3 % chance of coming back.
I met with the medical oncologist in the 27th and find out my chemotherapy schedule. I also have a ct scan and bone scan on September 3rd. I know the next year is going to be tough- but so am I. And I know I have so much support from my friends and family ❤️
