We had an eventful evening, unfortunately. A little before 10, Gabe was posturing uncontrollably, neck very stiff, and his eyes were fluttering, but he was responsive to questions. He didn't realize his body was doing what it was doing, he just said he wanted to get comfortable. It continued for about five minutes and they had to give an emergency seizure medication. They called it a focal aware seizure. As that med kicked in, we went down for a rapid CT. He was knocked out from the medication, but occasionally responsive and gave small smiles at me. CT showed no new brain bleed, just the same information as the previous post-op MRI of the excess CSF build up and the blood from surgery itself. He was responsive and cooperative during neuro checks, and able to sleep much of the night.

They believe it was because yesterday was a harder day - with the movement to go to bathroom a couple times, the bed sponge bath and sterile hair wash, that the varying positions caused a fluctuation in CSF fluid buildup/output and intracranial pressure, causing vomiting, and the vomiting in turn caused that fluctuation to be exacerbated even more and it just became a vicious cycle for a bit. The persistent fluctuating and lingering blood from surgery is likely the culprit for the seizure activity due to irritating the brain.

We were moved to PICU again for closer observation. He's at a risk for new brain bleeds due to the drain and the act of draining CSF externally, and it's been varying a lot as far as his intracranial pressure is concerned, so he needed closer observation again.
