Yesterday was exhausting, to say the least, but I’m so thankful we got through all of Benny’s appointments in one trip.

We saw the rehab team, neurology, and the surgery team, and also did X-rays. Up until 5 PM, we had great news all day!

• Rehab adjusted some medications and added one for evening comfort. His stander is being delivered next week, and I’m so excited to get him in it to start bearing weight through his legs!

• While at rehab, I asked if they could start monitoring his hips, since hip dysplasia is very common in cerebral palsy due to muscle tightness and weakness pulling the hips out of place. They typically check closer to age 2, but after evaluating him, they decided to order X-rays yesterday.

• Neurology plans to see him in September for a follow-up EEG and, if he remains seizure-free, we may be able to decrease one of his medications—such a blessing!

• The surgeon confirmed Benny will need surgery for his abscess. It’s a relatively simple procedure, but I’m nervous about anesthesia. They should be calling in the next few days to schedule it, likely for April or May.

Then, on the drive home, I got a call from the doctor about Benny’s hip X-rays. Both of his hips are subluxated (partially dislocated) and dislocated from the joint. While hip displacement is common in CP due to muscle tightness and difficulty bearing weight, they are very concerned about the severity at his age.

Right now, it doesn’t seem to be causing him pain, but Benny’s pain threshold is very high, or he may not be able to communicate discomfort. That part is so hard. We’re waiting for an orthopedic surgeon to call—hopefully today or Monday—so we can figure out the next steps.

For now:

• Therapy can continue as long as we don’t disrupt hip movement.

• The chiropractor doesn’t adjust his hips, so nothing changes there.

Please pray that Benny can tell us when he’s in pain, and that we find the best way forward for him. We need wisdom, guidance, and the right care for his sweet little body.

Sorry about his hips. Hopefully Drs will be able to correct them soon. Always praying for him.
