Austin Ryan
Today marks 3 weeks since this horrific accident occurred.
3 long weeks of family, friends, and loved ones worrying, praying, and visiting Austin at UW Madison Hospital. It is every parentβs worst nightmare not being able to fix things or take the pain away. 3 weeks of sleepless nights and days spent wishing, hoping, and praying that he wakes up!
Neurological Update:
The neurosurgeon shared some very helpful insight with Chris today. He explained that Austin is indeed waking up at timesβhe just isn't opening his eyes yet. He showed Chris that when Austin is sleeping, his eyes roll upward. But when stimulated, his eyes remain straight forward with pupils wide, and when light is shined into them, his pupils react immediately and shrink down while his eyes flutter. Seeing and having this explained was a huge comfort.
Weekend Care Plan & Brain Drain:
Weekend Care Plan & Brain Drain:
The neurosurgeon will be keeping a close watch on his fluid drainage levels over the entire weekend. On Monday or Tuesday, he will make the final call on whether a permanent VP shunt is needed. If it is required, the procedure will most likely happen on Tuesday.
Vitals & Activity:
- His heart rate, blood pressure, and breathing were elevated today, and he ran a high temperature. The care team is monitoring him closely, and we are hoping to see those numbers settle tomorrow.
- Because of these elevated vitals, his day was kept very relaxed to let his body rest.
Please keep the prayers coming as we navigate this milestone and look toward next week!
