We want to thank everyone who has supported us through prayers, donations, and messages of love. Your kindness has meant the world to us during this incredibly difficult time.
Recently, we received the most heartbreaking news any parent can imagine: Amelia has been diagnosed with GM1 Gangliosidosis Type 1, a rare, neurodegenerative, and fatal genetic condition. This disease affects her nervous system and leads to the progressive loss of motor skills, feeding difficulties, and other serious complications.
Doctors have explained that, sadly, life expectancy for children with this condition is only 2 to 3 years. Our focus now is on giving Amelia the best quality of life possible and creating beautiful memories with her every single day.
We are returning to Puerto Rico to spend this precious time with our baby, but the medical expenses from Amelia’s recent hospitalization at Cook Children’s Hospital in Texas have placed a significant financial burden on us. Additionally, we must continue preparing for her ongoing care, therapies, and equipment to keep her comfortable and safe.
Your support — whether through donations, sharing Amelia’s story, or keeping us in your prayers — helps us give Amelia the love, care, and comfort she deserves. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for walking this journey with us.
With love and gratitude,
Raquel & Family 💜
