Hello everyone! i just wanted to send a quick message letting you know how well I am doing!
I had my surgery 10 days ago. I already have all the bandages off and drains out and have been cleared to drive. My range of motion is so much better than I expected too! I may only need a few physical therapy appointments for the scars.
My pathology was a little disappointing. There was 1cm left of stubborn cancer in my tumor discovered when they scanned the tissue they removed from me. But the good news is : It's on the outside of me! Also, it was not very rapidly growing because I went 6 weeks with no chemo and it had only grown a possible fraction of a cm if that. But this does mean I will get more treatment as a kind of insurance policy against the cancer returning. I will begin a form of oral chemotherapy pills December 1st. There are possible side effects but not as severe as the possible side effects of the IV chemo and praise the Lord, I was able to avoid most of those! If I tolerate it well, I will be on that chemotherapy for 24 weeks. That's a long time friends. Pray me strong. I will also continue to get the immunotherapy infusion every 3 weeks until about April. The good news about my pathology was that the lymph nodes were completely cleared of the cancer. They took the one that was originally cancerous as well as 8 other lymph nodes and they were all cancer free!
Another new development is the treatments have made me turn diabetic. We are hoping it is temporary but it definitely is a bummer. I am having to eat a very strict no-carb diet and take my blood glucose often as well as begin an injectable weekly medicine (that comes with its own potential side effects that I would like to avoid as well).
I meet with the radiation oncologist on December 3rd to discuss if I will need radiation or not. Originally they said I would because of the nature of my cancer. But new studies have been released since I was diagnosed that may alter that plan. I won't know until I meet with him in December.
I am trying to stay positive and look at all of these things as ways for me to stay well instead of as disappointments. Thank you for all the love and support. The boys enjoyed getting some play dates and the meals helped the kids not have to pick up too much of my slack. I am not at 100% quite yet so I am still forcing myself to rest more than I would like but I'm getting there! I appreciate you all!
