Update and Urgent Prayer Request

In support of
Allison’s Cancer Journey

Allison is still in the hospital, and right now there isn’t a clear end in sight. She continues to have fevers and spiked one over 104F tonight. We’ve spent a lot of time talking with her doctors, trying to determine what could be causing them.

Her ANC remains extremely low. It was 10 today and has ranged between 0–20 over the past ten days. This is longer than expected. She has received one blood transfusion and two platelet transfusions this week. The mucositis is still pretty bad. She’s still on continuous pain medication and receiving IV nutrition around the clock. She feels absolutely terrible in so many ways.

They’ve run many cultures, including some new different types of blood cultures today, and did an MRI today as well to see if they could find a source of the continued fevers.

The good news is they believe they have finally identified the cause. The bad news is that it’s very serious. Allison has been diagnosed with typhlitis, a bacterial infection of the intestines. Of course I had to google it right away, and that was maybe not the right thing to do. I know, I know. When the first thing that came up said "life-threatening," I tried to stop myself from reading any further. The doctors here told us it requires complete bowel rest, nothing to eat or drink for seven days, along with IV antibiotics and daily X-rays. The surgical team will evaluate her every day to monitor the inflammation. If it worsens, surgery to remove the infected portion of her intestine may be necessary.

This means we will be in the hospital for at least another week.

Allison is absolutely devastated. We all are. We are urgently asking for prayers for healing. She has already endured so much. We are praying for peace over her during this time, for complete healing without further complications, no need for any surgery, that her ANC would come up, that she would have some respite from all of this and that when it’s time for her next round of chemo, she experiences no mucositis or any other complications at all.

"Lord my God, I called to you for help, and you healed me." Psalm 30:2

"He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds." Psalm 147:3

"So my spirit grows faint within me;
   my heart within me is dismayed.
I remember the days of long ago;
I meditate on all your works
    and consider what your hands have done.
I spread out my hands to you;
    I thirst for you like a parched land.
Answer me quickly, Lord;
    my spirit fails.
Do not hide your face from me
    or I will be like those who go down to the pit.
Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love,
    for I have put my trust in you.
Show me the way I should go,
    for to you I entrust my life."
-Psalm 143:4-8

I know your mom and dad, I’ve been lifting up Allie and you in prayer. If you could leave an OPEN Bible near her bedside…it must be open so she can have restful sleep and the enemy will stay away from her, especially now. I know it sounds weird, but please do it for Allie. The enemy hates the Word of God…closed bibles he doesn’t care about but OPEN one’s he hates.

Lord Jesus, we cry out to You for Allison Your precious daughter. Heal her, Father. Keep her and protect her. Cover her with Your mercy and restore her body, Mighty God. Lift her up while You strengthen her. Be her overwhelming peace in the midst of fear, her comfort in pain, and her loving Savior in this storm. All who love Allison stand in the gap for her now. We come together in one heart and one voice, in full agreement for her healing. Your Word says that when two or more gather in Your name, You are there in the midst (Matthew 18:20). Lord, we need You to show up and manifest Your mighty power. Fill that hospital room with Your presence. Let Your peace, Your authority, and Your healing power overwhelm every diagnosis, every fear, and every complication. You are the Great Physician. Nothing is beyond Your power. Your Word says, “Lord my God, I called to You for help, and You healed me.” (Psalm 30:2) So we call on You now. Raise her ANC, Lord. Fight every infection in her body. Calm the fevers. Heal her intestines completely. Let the inflammation subside and the antibiotics work swiftly and effectively. Protect her from further complications. Strengthen her immune system and restore what chemotherapy has weakened. Bring relief from the mucositis, the pain, the exhaustion, and the despair. Sustain her while she cannot eat or drink. Let Your presence be nourishment to her soul when her body feels empty and weak. We ask for supernatural peace over Allison , peace that quiets anxiety, steadies her heart, and surrounds her like a shield. Comfort her family as they watch and wait. Remind them that You are near to the brokenhearted and that You bind up every wound. Your Word declares, “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” (Psalm 147:3) Lord, we also pray for wisdom for every doctor, nurse, and surgeon caring for her. Guide every decision. Let treatments be precise, timely, and successful. We ask — if it be Your will — that surgery will not be necessary and that healing will come without further suffering. When the time comes for future treatments, prepare her body now. Let her next round of chemo be free from severe complications. Guard her mouth, her gut, her blood counts — every system in her body. When her spirit grows faint, be her strength. When fear rises, be her peace. When hope feels distant, be her assurance. As Your Word says: “My spirit grows faint within me… I spread out my hands to You; I thirst for You like a parched land. Answer me quickly, Lord… Let the morning bring me word of Your unfailing love.” (Psalm 143:4–8) Lord Jesus, You were pierced for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon You, and by Your wounds we are healed. (Isaiah 53:5) So we stand on that promise now. Heal Allison completely mind, body, and soul. MAKE HER WHOLE AFAIN! Restore her strength. Renew her hope. Surround her with Your presence. Carry her through this valley and bring her into the light again. This is our war cry! In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen!
