Allison’s Cancer Journey
We met the oncologist yesterday. The biopsy results showed the cancer is a high grade osteosarcoma just like they thought. The good news is that we seem to have caught this early and it hasn’t spread as far as we can tell from the CT scan. This is great because it means it is more treatable and has a better prognosis!
Next steps are different testing including a PET scan, echo, hearing test and blood work to get a baseline before treatment as well as a referral for options for preserving fertility. All that will hopefully happen quickly. Then we will schedule a surgery to have a port put in and begin chemo right away.
Each cycle of chemo will be about 2 days inpatient at the hospital with the occasional longer stay when they add a third chemo drug intermittently. We will do 10 weeks of chemo before rescanning and making a surgical plan to remove the tumor and rebuild the bone. After she recovers from the surgery we will do another 10-12 weeks of chemo.
This has been a lot to process for everyone and Allison has her ups and downs as well. We will try to find a way to keep others updated and we appreciate your prayers and support!
Right now our prayers are that we would end up in the right place with the right doctors and treatment plan, that Allison would respond well to the chemo and not have horrible side effects, that she would have peace throughout this entire thing and that this cancer would go away and never ever come back!
