Sorry for the late update. I actually focused on work at the end of the day while my mom had a bunch of different visitors.
Mom White Blood Count (WBC) went up and her Red Blood Count (RBC) went down. This was very concerning after yesterday, but the doctors are doing everything they can to keep a close eye on mom. We were very nervous but once we arrived at the hospital it was very clear everyone was on high alert due to the pain and fever yesterday and then these numbers being off. Amy arrived 1st and mom was said she was feeling good and was wide awake. Then it was non stop action in her room. The surgeons (I think I mentioned it's a teaching hospital for general surgery so when they come - there is usually 5-7 of them) came by and helped explain that while the numbers are concerning especially after yesterday that they have to look at everything all together. They explained how much she had been through and that although the numbers are off, she looks great and all her vitals are looking perfect so while they are going to investigate they keep reminding us not to panic and to stay positive. The did blood cultures, starting antibiotic again (she was only off for 1 day), did an xray, etc. So now it's just more waiting to see what her body is going to do. They keep reminding us that when you operate on the small bowel - you are just stirring up a lot of shit (pun intended) and things can take a while to settle. We had an amazing news we loved yesterday and today which made mom laugh a bunch. Immediately following the surgeons she got her wound vac in place (AMEN) so it can help with the healing process of the open wound). It was great to hear from the wound specialists - more about this - how it works, what to expect, etc. Next came the Care Coordinator who helped answer a few questions about discharge plans (hopefully later this week but most likely next due to numbers being off again). More research for us to do. on what home health company we want to use, but not in a rush and it was great to get questions answered. Mom then had OT and PT and did great! Followed by the pain management pharmacist. A VERY BUSY day - followed by lots of visitors that mom seems to love having and it gave Amy and I a chance to work!
Thanks to everyone for continued support. Please know mom is still not really answering her phone or responding to texts but I have read her some of the comments from here and try to keep her updated on things but #1 right now is her resting and healing!
