Hello my name is Christi and Autumn is my granddaughter.  I have had her and her sister since March 2023.  I now have full custody of them both. At 5 weeks old I was called to the hospital for Autumn, they stated she had been in an accident.  When I arrived her right arm was purple and swollen. We went to extra where they took over 30 pictures of her. You can imagine a 5 week old screaming the whole time.  While waiting on results CPS came in the room and took her from me at that time I had no idea what was going on. Apparently she had been rolled onto while napping and she now had 39 fractures her right arm being the worse. Finally CPS did all the checks they needed to and I was allowed to go up to ICU with her. We spent 3 days there and then was released. It was a long road if you know anything about dealing with CPS. After 2 months of being wrapped like a mummy she was finally able to move freely.  At 6 months I began to worry because she was not even trying to sit up or roll. Her doctor sent her to a bone specialist and we discovered she has hip dysplasia. She has wear a brace since then trying to correct her hips. Of course with everything she is a little delayed and did not start walking until this past February. She is in PT OT and speech at this time. On June 4 of this year the daycare called me saying she was vomiting and she had turned pile. When I arrived and picked her up I instantly knew something was wrong so I rushed her to the emergency room. When arriving her O2 was 85 so they rushed us to the back. They did blood work and took X-rays of her lungs. They came back and stated that she had pneumonia and they were going to transfer her. When the ambulance arrived I could not ride with her so I rushed home to gather some things and headed to the hospital.  When I arrived the doctor there stopped me before going in and stated that it was more than pneumonia that he believed that something wrong with her heart so they began to do an echo on her. When done he came rushing in to ask me about which hospital I wanted her to go to Dells or Cooks. I told him that if it was his child where would he go and he called Dells. We were care flighted to Austin.  This all happened in about a 6 hour time frame. When we arrived at Dells the doc there was already aware of what was going on with her so her explained that she had a hole in the left side of her heart and that it had over worked the right side and it was pushing on her lung and that is why she was in distress. They took her back for emergency open heart surgery within the hour. We were there for 3 weeks 2 weeks in icu and 1 week in a regular room.  Since then at less once a week we are going back and forth from Waco to Austin it is 100 miles there. I am the only caregiver the only one that had taken care of her since she was 5 weeks. My daughter watches her every now and then to give me a break. But she has not stayed a night away since I got her. It’s hard to sleep because I am always watching her to make sure she is ok. She is such a happy baby and so full of life I don’t know what I would do if anything happens to her💜
